The arrows indicate the transporter's primary direction of transport. However, for some SLC transporters, transport in the opposite direction is also possible. For example, tetraethylammonium efflux is trans-stimulated by extracellular tetraethylammonium or with acidic external medium pH in OCTN1-expressing HEK293 cells (Yabuuchi et al., J Pharmacol Exp Ther. 1999 May;289(2):768-73).
